Rallye Allgäu-Orient
This year's Allgäu-Orient-Rallye is the fifth of its kind. It has become so popular that the tickets for entry to the rallye were gone in 30 hours. 105 teams will start the adventure on the 30th of April 2010. Not the quickest team will win, but the most creative, which will be judged on a series of challenges throughout the rallye. Some of the challenges in 2009 included; passing as many borders as possible, collecting the lyrics of all national anthems of countries passed in the rallye; and there have been some timed stages in the desert of Jordan as well. The teams in the rallye are either made up of four or six people with two or three cars, respectively. There is also the possibility that bikes are participating - an option we avail as one of our teams includes two bikes. However, all of the four or six members of one team have to arrive in Amman, at least in one car. The drive will lead us through Central and Southeastern Europe, through Turkey and Syria to arrive in the capital city of Jordan, Amman.
Rules
In fact the Allgäu-Orient Ralley is not a race (the road traffic regulations of each country have to be followed), but a low-budget adventure drive, where the cars have to be at least 20 years of age or they should cost less than 1,111.-- Euro. The rest of the rules in a nutshell are as follows:
- highways and toll roads are forbidden,
- the cost for accommodation per person per night should not exceed 11.11 Euros,
- the route can be chosen by each team,
- however, intermediate goals have to be driven to,
- tasks have to be fulfilled in each country,
- whereby a maximum distance of 666km a day is permitted, however, around 555km should be driven each day to make the total distance in the time allowed,
- and when the teams arrive in Jordan, the cars are donated.
