Charity

On April 30th, 2010 over 300 vehicles from all over Europe will come together to participate in the "Allgäu-Orient"-rally in its fifth edition. While this will certainly be a unique and challenging sportive event for the participants, it has a charitable background. Already since its inception this old-timer and classic car rally sets marks in the fight against hunger and creates attention for the UN World Food Program, the patron of this project.
Cars for Jordan
All vehicles will be auctioned at the end of the rally in Amman. All proceeds - approximately 80,000 € in 2008 - are donated to development projects of the World Food Program. With the proceeds of the last years the Allgäu-Orient cheese factory was established, providing the Bedouin locals with the possibility to preserve the milk of their sheep and goats and make it thereby exploitable.
Toys for children's homes
Jordan also appreciates that social commitment and acknowledges it with an official event where the participants are formally welcomed by the Jordanian royal family. But not only the destination country Jordan benefits from this event, the participants of the rally will also distribute toys and other goodies to children's homes and orphanages in some of the countries passed on the way.
Notebooks for Jordan
To embrace our team's name "Bakshish-Austria", which means "Austria's donation", our team goes one step further. With a donation of about 20 notebooks, which are generously provided by DERI, a research institute at the National University of Ireland, we want to offer a school in Jordan the opportunity to teach their students how to deal with computers and to allow them to step into entirely new fields of activities and additional market opportunities.
